These Hmong Quilts are beautiful and unique. Each piece of quilt is made out of authentic fabric: the old pieces of Hmong outfit. The provocative patterns on the quilts come from, sleeves, collars, or a legging of their outfits. Hmong outfit is very difficult to make. Stitching the small colorful fabric strips to make the pieces of their outfits. Everything is done by hands of Hmong women. There is no technology involved. Sometime, it takes about a year or two to make an outfit. Hmong people don't change their fashion. They use one outfit for a long time. When it gets older, they cut them off and put them on the quilts. Each quilt is unique and there is no copy. There is another interesting technique to decorate the quilts: bee wax. They use bee wax to draw the pictures. After dying, the bee wax was scraped off and reveling beautiful white patterns on the blue quilt. This is an ancient technique. The indigo, dark blue color on the borders of these quilts ("cham" color in vietnamese) comes from the root of a tree. The designs and colors of the quilts reflect the nature of the people who made them, simple, natural, sincere, honest, and very creative. Each quilt has an unique character and so beautiful!
